Rannells Facilities

The current research pasture layout consists of 16, 70-80-acre grazing units in the north two sections of the area. These units are connected to the northern working pens by a lane system which allows each pasture to be loaded or unloaded without entering another pasture. In the southern two sections, there are six 160-acre grazing units, one 200-acre grazing unit, and one 240-acre grazing unit. On the west side of K-177 at the north end of the facility, there is a 160-acre grazing unit. Cattle from the north two sections are gathered and worked in a set of working pens with a gathering pen and 15, ~50-head capacity pens, a loading chute, a crowding tub, a snake, a hydraulic squeeze chute with an attached scale. The cattle in the southern two sections are gathered and worked in an 8-pen working facility with a gathering pen, a loading chute, a crowding tub, a snake, a hydraulic squeeze chute with an attached scale. In the pasture west of K-177, there are two pens and a loading chute. Below is a schematic developed in ArcView which depicts the pasture layout and other pertinent features. A high-resolution aerial photo of the area with pasture boundaries and roads can be viewed by clicking on this link.
