Green milkweed is an erect to ascending (sometimes decumbent) perennial 1-2 ft tall with thinly pubescent stems and milky juice. The opposite (rarely a few alternate) leaves are leathery; oval, obovate, or oblong; and wavy and scabrous on the margins. The inflorescence is of axillary sessile umbels with light green flowers and a reflexed corolla. The follicles are slenderly lanceolate with tufted brown seeds.
