Dichanthelium leibergii (Vasey)

Habit: 		Tufted perennial.
Culms: 		Slender, 25-75 cm. tall, erect from a more or less geniculate base, pilose,
		or scabrous at least below the nodes, in late summer with erect branches from the lower nodes.
Blades: 	Ascending or erect, rather thin, 6-15 cm. long, 7-15 mm. wide, papillose-hispid
		on both surfaces, often sparsely so above.
Sheaths: 	Strongly papillose-hispid, with spreading hairs.
Ligule: 	Minute.
Inflorescence: 	Panicle 8-15 cm. long, less than half as wide, the branches narrowly ascending.
Spikelets: 	3.7-4 mm. long, less turgid than D. scribnerianum, strongly papillose-hispid
		with long spreading hairs, strongly 7-9 nerved.
Glumes: 	First half as long as the spikelet, acuminate, second equaling the fruit, membranous.
Autumnal form:	Leaning, sparingly branching from the middle and lower nodes.
Habitat: 	Prairies. June-July.
Kansas Range:	East fifth.
