Habit: 		Tufted leafy annual, rather soft and lax.
Culms: 		Filiform, 5-15 cm. tall or more, smooth, erect or somewhat spreading, with short
		lower internodes.
Blades: 	Flat, 1-4 cm. long, 1-2 mm. broad, scabrous on margins and nerves above.
Ligule: 	About 2 mm. long.
Inflorescence: 	A few-flowered, narrow, contracted, interrupted panicle 2-5 cm. long, 2-4 mm. thick.
Spikelets: 	1-flowered, flower perfect, on short thick pedicels, disarticulating above the glumes.
Glumes: 	About 1 mm. long, ovate, persistent, keeled, acute.
Lemmas: 	Lanceolate, firm-membranous, 3-nerved, acute, mucronate, minutely pubescent,
		scaberulous at tip, about 2 mm. long.
Palea: 		Thin, subequal.
Fruit: 		Grain closely enveloped by the lemma.
Habitat: 	Open woods and mountain meadows.  August-September.
Kansas Range:	Finney county.
